The community at Trinity Lutheran Church in Astoria, NY have been working on a collaborative mosaic from June 2014 to October 2015 and we just got it installed at the church! Congratulations to all of the artists! The 3×5 ft. completed mosaic was designed by the Sunday School students around the theme of Creation and tiles were pieced together by adults in the congregation.
Featured are a globe, rainbow, shooting stars, apple tree, New York City skyscrapers and subway, and a representation of Trinity Lutheran in the bottom right corner, like a signature. It was important to participants to showcase the man-made and natural creations in the NYC life. Throughout the creation of the mosaic, we talked a lot about what we’re thankful for, and something that came up frequently was the diversity in Queens and being able to get to know people from so many different cultures! To that end, we tried to show a little bit of each continent on the world so everyone was represented.
The mosaic is currently installed in the sanctuary at Trinity Lutheran Church, 31-18 37th Street, Astoria, NY 11103.
